Can Java become an important Linux language?

When you think programming languages and Linux, the ones that tend to come to mind are C, C++, Perl, PHP, Python and, lately, Ruby. Java probably doesn’t enter your mind at all — that’s because until recently Java was a proprietary language. The irony of this is that Microsoft’s .NET is more important on Linux today than open-source Java.
